Metering Services

Technician (x1) Ref: 016

Division – Metering Field Services LPU

Reporting to – Manager Field Services LPU

Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to maintain, service and repair electrical metering equipment within the scope of commercial, industrial & agricultural customers. The primary objective is to ensure that meters are calibrated, operational as well as not posing any safety risks. To supervise & train temporary trainee’s assigned to the division for skills development purposes.

Key responsibilities

 Investigate and diagnose problems to determine what repair/replacement of metering equipment needs to be done.

 Carry out repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance work on all equipment to comply with product technical specifications & standards

 Co-ordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to operational parameters

 Communicate equipment information and changes to relevant stakeholders to minimize billing errors

 Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, budget compliance and spares availability

 Continuously analyse equipment efficiencies to recommend or implementing improvements/changes to maximise metering 

services

 Completes daily reports and works orders

 Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of the LPU process to ensure metering services optimisation

 Provide assistance during emergencies

 Respond to emergency call outs

 Perform / execute work under the leadership of the Senior Technician

 Train assigned trainees for skills development purposes.

 Ensure fast, efficient & reliable customer service

 Attend to emergency customer queries / requests as directed

 Ensure and monitor adherence to all SHEQ requirements

 Electrical installation knowledge

 Operating and controlling electrical systems and equipment

 Electrical metering maintenance

Minimum Qualifications:

 Grade 12

 ND Electrical Engineering or equivalent

 Valid driver’s license

Minimum Experience

 2 years’ experience within an electrical maintenance environment
