PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS: 

The purpose of this position is to plan to implement advanced mining automation systems to improve the safety and productivity of the underground operation.

We are looking for technically skilled candidates with good problem-solving ability for the position of End User Support Technician. 

The duties of an End User Support Technician include, but are not limited to, being a reference point for all technology-related queries at the user level, responding to user needs promptly and ensuring the optimal running of all systems, in addition to all technical duties.

The End User Support Technician is expected to display good interpersonal skills as he/she will interact with colleagues across all departments and at all levels. This includes identification of the client’s technical needs, and implementation of customized solutions in response to defined problems.

The incumbent will also assist with day-to-day support of the task management system and administration requirements of the Integrated Operations Centre of Venetia Mine. This includes moving and installing desktop equipment, basic systems implementation, answering helpdesk calls, escalation, and monitoring and assisting Integrated Operations Centre employees with IT-related issues.

KEY RESULT AREAS: 

It will be required of the successful incumbent to:

• Promote safety through participating in Safety, Health & Environmental reviews, recommending appropriate actions where necessary, keeping abreast of Safety, Health & Environment industry best 

practices and ensuring communication to stakeholders, peer groups and reporting staff

• Adhere to Safety, Health, and Environmental Policies and Procedures

• Adhere to legal requirements by the Department of Health and Radiation Directorate

• Execution of preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on equipment and systems

• Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability

• Troubleshooting hardware and software issues

• Ensuring electrical safety standards are met

• Repairing or replacing damaged hardware

• Upgrading the entire system to enable compatible software on all computers

• Installing and upgrading anti-virus software to ensure security at - user level

• Performing tests and evaluations of new software and hardware

• Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for error reporting

• Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues

• Managing technical documentation

• Provide system training.

• Must be prepared to perform standby and call-out duties

• Good installation, diagnostic, upgrade, and restoration abilities

• This role requires the incumbent to work underground on a shift configuration

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)

• Grade 12 Certificate/ N3 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification

• Minimum of 3+ years’ continuous current and relevant experience as a desktop technician 

• Diploma in Information Technology

• A+ and N+ Certification ITIL Foundation

• Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) to work Underground

Advantageous
