The Electrical Industry is an essential support role for the Mine Geologist and crucial for duration of Venetia Mine production operation. The purpose of this role is to ensure the kimberlite and waste parameters are analyzed and measured to ensure correct mining, stockpiling and optimised blending of ore during processing. ambitions

Job Description 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working underground sampling in draw points, tunnels and conveyor belts. 

• Support the Underground Lights with collecting data fragmentation. 

• Underground fragmentation and water condition observations, machines maintenance. 

• Grade Control by monitoring waste in the draw points by conducting. 

• Daily logging of samples into the routine sampling database.

• Preparation of samples for dispatch. 

• Transportation of samples from underground to Laboratory/ Core Shed.

• Sample preparation which includes sieving of the samples into different size fractions

• QAQC on the sample preparation.

• Conducting density and moisture content testing on post blasted muck pile.

• Expected to provide ad hoc Plant support when needed.

• Be willing to work shifts when required and assist Grade Controllers 

• Conduct routine check at the drill sites. 

• Monitor the kimberlite spillage at the conveyor belts. 

This role is in the VUP Engineering department at a BU level reporting to the Geologist.

 Qualifications 

Formal Qualifications

• Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with maths and science

• Successfully obtain a Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground

• The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company’s pre-employment protocol such

• Computer Literate – MS Office Packages (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel &PowerPoint).

• Knowledge of SAP will be advantageous.

• Be able to work under pressure.

• Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) and Security clearance on mine.

• Ability to type 25 wpm (competency will be assessed).

• Proficient in English

• Chamber of Mines Elementary Sampling Certificate will be an advantage

Additional Information

• Valid EB / Code 8 Drivers License

• Computer literacy – MS Office Suite 

• Be prepared to work shifts, do standby duties, call-outs, and work overtime

SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

• Computer literacy, including Excel, Word ad PowerPoint. 

• Excellent telephonic, verbal, and written communication skills across all levels 

• High level of attention to detail.

• Thorough, accurate and attentive to details.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

• Must be medically fit.

• Basic problem-solving skills.

Role -Specific Knowledge:

• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in the mining field 

• Underground and/ or Geology work experience will be an advantage
